ELA

Today every student received an article to read. Each day they will read the article and then do a task to the article in order to help them better understand what the article says. The complete article task is due Friday. Here is the task.

Monday: Read the article and circle unknown and/or harder words. Must have AT LEAST three words circled.
Tuesday: Read the article, define 3 unknown words, chunk the text.
Wednesday: Read the article, square main idea, underline the supporting details.
Thursday: Read the text, one sentence summaries for each chunk.
Friday: Article is due and there will be a quick quiz to check understanding.

This article is intended to be an introduction to our Growth Mindset unit. It is just a reminder that we have the ability to learn even more than we already know if we apply ourselves.

Science- Today students took a "gap analysis' test on the computer.  It did not count as a grade, but a tool to help guide instruction through the year.

Social Studies

Today all students took a pre-test on the concepts for 6th grade Social Studies.  It will be fun to take the post test in May and see how much they have learned!

In their blue SS folder you will see a blue packet titled: 6th Grade Fall Semester Post
Test Study Guide.  This is a district assessment and they need to not lose this blue packet.  We will be working on answering all the questions as we move through the Fall and are studying Paleolithic/Neolithic Times, Ancient Egypt, Ancient China, World Religions, Economics, and Geography.

If you are a parent who periodically goes through your child's backpack to clean it out... PLEASE do not throw away this blue packet.

Bolton Math

Students were given a Class Summary(Syllabus) for parents to look over.  It was discussed in class as was the websites for homework and Illustrative Mathematics.  We also discussed having a positive Math mindset.  Please try and make sure your child has the binder and at least a composition notebook as soon as possible.  Thank you.

Welcome Back! ELA homework

Welcome families! We are so excited for a new year :) I can already tell its going to be a GREAT year! Thank you for all of your support.

ELA (English Language Arts) does have homework tonight. They are to complete their All About Me questionnaire- both sides. They did have time in class to start it, so it should be near complete by the time they get home.

Also all homerooms sent home packets that need to be filled out and a pink sheet that needs to be checked over and I believe signed that we have the updated information. The sooner we get those back the better! Thank you!

STEWART- Soc, Studies? Science

Welcome to 6th grade.  I had a great first day with my homeroom, and I am looking forward to meeting Mr. Bolton's and Ms, Haehl's class tomorrow.

Today we worked on a Science  warm up with some prediction, building, and  writing about the experience.  I was very impressed with how well these kids worked together,

Please sign and return the last page of the 6th grade packet.
