It has been a pleasure working with this group.  I know they will be equally successful second semester with Mr. Bolton.
Period 4
We will begin Chapter 7 in January. For third quarter there will be a change in the way grades are weighted.  Homework will be worth 20% of their grade and Tests will be worth 80%
 
Social Studies-
  A worksheet/color sheet was given on 12-15-10.  This is due January 3rd.  We will continue working on Ancient Greece in anticipation of Greek and Roman Day on February 10th.

Peck - Science Homework

Today we reviewed Warm Fronts and Cold Fronts one more time.  We also went over how a cloud is formed and what conditions are necessary for rain to fall.  The students worked on their review guides in preparation for Tuesday's final test. I apologize for not posting yesterday's homework. Fortunately everyone was prepared today! We reviewed how a cloud is formed and wrote the 5 main steps involved in cloud formation.  The students also competed a reading on Observing Clouds and answered the 5 questions at the end.

Today the students reviewed evaporation and condensation. I performed a demonstration that showed how increased pressure can cause an increase in temperature.  The students discussed what they observed and came to this conclusion that an increase in pressure causes an increase in temperature.

Today we discussed requirements for the upcoming trip to the AZ Science Center on Wednesday and reviewed dew point. We learned how to calculate the relative humidity in the classroom by comparing a wet bulb thermometer temperature with a dry bulb thermometer temperature and reading a humidity calculator.

HW: Read "Dragon's Breath" p. 34-36 and answer the 4 Thinking Questions in your notebooks.

Today the students discovered that they found the dew point in yesterday's lab.  We defined dew point then answered some questions that refer to how water vapor and temperature affect the dew point.  That students were also assigned a Response Sheet that challenges them to apply what they have learned regarding humidity and energy transfer.

Today the students reviewed the concepts of evaporation and condensation then defined humidity and relative humidity.  The students also learned how to calculate relative humidity when given a water vapor chart.

The students performed a lab based on density; which involved layering different colored salt solutions in a straw. They will learn how to calculate density and form a conclusion as to why the salt solutions layered the way they did tomorrow.

Today the students completed an investigation that compared different earth materials and how they absorb solar energy. The students began graphing and evaluating the data we collected. Tomorrow they will work on turning in a completed lab report with a conclusion of what they learned during this Heat Transfer Investigation.

All students should have a pair of scissors and some glue for our interactive notebooks. We have someto share, but it saves time if everyone has their own. Also, dry erase markers would be beneficial in MATH. We sometimes use small whiteboards for quick practice. I understand some things were left off of the supply lists.
