Peck-Science Homework

The students dissected a lima bean seed today.  They identified the 3 main parts of the seed and their functions.  The purpose of the dissection was to obtain evidence that  proves a seed is a living organism.

MATH- Period 3- We are now using the Houghton Mifflin Green textbook.  (not available on -line)  We are starting to add and substract fractions.  Please make sure your child writes the whole problem and not just the answer.  p. 253  4-31

The students viewed Brine Shrimp under the microscope and discussed what evidence we observed for characteristics of life.  We also reviewed the parts of a microscope and how to calculate total magnification.  The students took notes on the review and organized their notebooks for studying tonight.

Today the students defined living, dormant, dead, and nonliving by making a flipbook and attaching it to their notebooks. I encouraged the students to study their notebooks and go over the definitions and 7 characteristics of life in preparation for the test tomorrow!

Peck-Science Homework

The students recorded the 24 hour observation data using the 5 vials of mystery material and tried to determine if there was any evidence of life in any of the vials. The class will do a 48 hour observation tomorrow and begin to identify the materials. We did determine that yeast was one of the materials today and that yeast is a living material.

HW: Read the article "Life on Earth" and answer the 4 Thinking Questions in your spiral notebook. Try and identify the 7th Characteristic that all organisms share.

The students created a new notebook for Diversity of Life and pondered questions about the difference between living and nonliving things. What characteristics are evidence of life? The students also observed some mystery particles and recorded their thoughts as to whether the particles were living or nonliving.

Peck-Science Homework

We had GREAT with Officer Jackson in class today.

Tomorrow we will be seeing a presentation by Brady Ellison, Olympic Archer, during science class. If your child has not brought in a permission slip to participate in this presentation he/she will be placed in another classroom during the presentation. Please remind your child to bring in a signed permission slip!

In the next few days I am asking for some cutting samples that are needed for the Diversity of Life unit. I need the branch as we are going to be growing these cuttings to show roots in class.

Please see the list below, and if you can spare any of these plants or cuttings, our class would greatly appreciate it!
